Andrea G. Bough

Andrea Bough leads the real estate department at Lewis Rice, where she has extensive experience in economic development, land use, planning and zoning, and subdivision regulations. Her career has involved representing developers in some of the largest transactions in the Kansas City area.

Bough has also made a difference in Kansas City, with Mayor Sly James appointing her to a number of positions, including the Blue Ribbon Commission on Ethics Reform and the Charter Review Committee.

What are your proudest career accomplishments?

One of my proudest career accomplishments is assisting the city of Kansas City in reviewing and re-writing the Code of Ethics. Second, I am proudest when I feel that I have given 110 percent to my clients. Even if it is not the largest project, I strive to provide the best service that I can. In the end, if my client is pleased with the result, then I have done my job.

What is the best advice you have given or received?

When I was a young attorney, I was frustrated that I did not feel like I was “doing good” or “making a difference.” An older, wiser attorney in the firm helped me rethink that feeling. He said that (1) for our clients, we were making a difference, and (2) for some people, their job was their “calling” and for others, their job was something that allowed them the means to pursue their calling in other areas of their lives.

What is something that would surprise people about you?

That I was the drum major in my high school marching band, or maybe more surprising that I played the baritone (poorly) in the off-season. Or I was first runner up, Junior Miss Sweetcorn.

When you were growing up, what did you want to be? A newscaster on the CBS Morning News.
